BOARD MEETING MINUTES
July 29, 2010
Opening:
The Board Meeting of the GCLA was called to order at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 29th, at the office of Pioneer Tree Service, by GCLA President, Danny Monts.
Present: Wes Stillinger, Danny Monts, Guy Gant, Pete Hellman and Kay Teague.
Old Business:
Board Minutes – June2010 minutes were distributed to all members and approved.
Treasurer’s Report –Reports for the Scholarship and Operating accounts were distributed, discussed and approved.
IRS Update – Kay distributed to the members a letter from the IRS declaring that the GCLA is exempt from Federal Income Tax under section 501 © (6) of the Internal Revenue Code. Kay was asked to review the existing scholarship distribution policy and to make changes as prescribed by the IRS, share with the membership and place in the by-laws by January 2011. An approved dissolution clause must also be included in the by-laws as well.
2010 Committees:
Auction – Scheduled for September 13th and to be held at Love on Knox Abbott Drive. The auction will again this year be sponsored by Love and Pioneer Tree Service.
Golf – The GCLA golf tournament will tentatively be held on Thursday, October 21st. Once a course and date is established, an email will be sent to all members.
Service Project – Several suggestions have been made and a decision will be made at the next Board Meeting in August.
Banquet – Wes mentioned that it is not too soon to be thinking about the banquet location, agenda, etc. Guy and Wes agreed to work on this project.
Board Member: The by-laws were consulted on the process for replacing Rhett Bickley as president elect and it was determined that the board could make the replacement. The board wanted to contact a few members to determine if they would be willing to serve and then make a decision at the next board meeting.
Board Meeting Date – Our next Board Meeting will be held on August 23rd at the office of Guy Gantt on Chris Drive and will begin at 7:00 PM
New Business:
Educational Materials – It was determined that educational DVD’s will be purchased for use at our membership meetings.
Membership Meeting Sponsors/Speakers – There was some discussion concerning a family/fun day meeting. Need more research.
